EA has decided to discontinue the Black Panther game.

The Black Panther video game that was being developed by EA has been scrapped. According to reports from IGN, Electronic Arts sent an email to its staff in order to inform them of the news. It has also been reported by IGN that Cliffhanger Games has been discontinued as a consequence of the cancelation they made.

Cliffhanger Games was a new gaming company that was established for the purpose of developing Black Panther. Kevin Stephens, who had previously served as the studio head for the now-defunct Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor developer Monolith Productions, oversees the operations of Cliffhanger Games. Black Panther was a single-player video game that was created in conjunction with Marvel Games and included a unique storyline. This was the only information that was known about the game prior to its official announcement in the year 2023. A collaboration agreement for three games was announced by EA and Marvel in the year 2022. An Iron Man game that is presently being developed at Motive Studio and an action game that has not yet been publicly released were the other two projects that were included in the contract, in addition to Black Panther.

IGN reports that the cancelation is accompanied by layoffs for employees working in other areas of Electronic Arts’ company. A series of layoffs took place early this year, affecting between 300 and 400 workers, and the publisher just stated that they would be implementing a mandatory RTO policy that will require staff to report to work at least three days each week. For a comment, The Verge has reached out to the developer.

Although the game has been canceled, there is still a chance that a Black Panther-led game may be released in the future. Amy Hennig and her team are now working on Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, a video game that will include Captain America and Black Panther as playable characters. This game is being developed by Skydance Digital Media.
